I got one months ago and just told them I wasn't interested. They told me I won a free gym membership and that my name was submitted by someone I knew. They've been calling me the past few weeks and I haven't answered. I finally googled the number and saw stuff about a scam. So they just called me like 5 minutes ago and told me I won a gym membership. I told them to stop calling and then after I got off the phone with her I realized she told me I won a membership and didn't even ask for me by name? Plus when you try to call the number back it's disconnected. It's a scam for sure!

I just got a call from this number.  Didn't recognize it, so let it go to voicemail.  Then I looked it up on Google & found this page.  Thank you all so much for letting me know this is some sort of scam.  I have never heard of these people & don't owe anyone anything, so this was a surprise how they got my name & county I lived in.  Nice threat, but thanks to all of you fine people I am not even attempting to fall for it!

Mr. Boyd strikes again.  i have a judgement against me in the amount of $4312; however, if I pay today, they're going to settle for 2280.77.  He even provided me with my checking account # (WRONG), SSN (WRONG) and 2 references that I don't know and never heard of.  It was from some check cashing place where I supposedly took out a loan in 9/2009 and made payments through 9/2010; however, I stopped paying.  News to me because I have never taken out a loan with a check cashing store nor even considered taking out one. They even have another # to call back on - 855-848-4844.  Run Forrest Run!!!!

Apparently, i have been fooled. This guy called my father and said that they were going to sue me. So my dad called me and i foolishly made payment arrangements. Fortunatley, i have pre-paid legal services and have been informed about these scammers. Of course, i cannot get the money back that i gave them, but at least i will not have to pay the rest and have since closed the pre-paid card they were taking money from. Thanks for everyone's post. I am finally getting a handle on all these scammers.

Got call from this number (716-200-4705) from a Steve Boyd.  He left a message saying I was being sued, and the 2 references I gave were being sued as well.  This was for a loan I took out about this time last year with Bank of Delaware.  As we all know, you can't sue the people you use as references!  They did not co-sign with me, they were just references.  Anyway, this Steve Boyd claims to be an attorney for Bank of Delaware and that they are suing me, and my 2 references.  Good luck!  I am NOT returning the calls as this is the 2nd set of scammers that have called in the past year and threatened to sue me.

Ok, let me just follow up on my call.  It was the same person/scenario as DC, but when I called back and left my cell number (might have been a mistake :-|) and when he called me back he first read off an SSN to verify if it was the right person. I told him the ssn wasn't even close, then he asked me if I was Sr, Jr, etc, I answered no.  Then he told me sorry and that he would block my number in the system.  Not as bad I as thought it would be.  Still a little scary getting an answereing machine message saying you are being sued and have been "served"  LOL. I have gotten a lot of these calls (mostly just collection agencies, no law suit), apparently there is a guy with my name who is not paying ANY of his bills.

Getting calls from this number? The best thing to do is simply not answer the phone. It will only ruin your day. Any ounce of conversation with them is considered admission of guilt. I just don't answer the phone. I deal with collectors by PO Box only.

I recieved a call about a week ago from this number and told me his name was Mr. Brunswick. All the same threats.  Telling I owe $2,158.00 for a payday loan.  He said the loan was from Cash Jar, and they were filling a lawsuit agianst me if I didn't pay immediately to drop the suit.  I asked for proof of the loan, dates, etc.  Explained that I always pay my debt but I have been scammed at least five times like this since I applied for one payday loan online.  It's scary to think that they have all my personal informaiton.  I WILL NEVER EVER EVER APPLY FOR ANYTHING LIKE THAT EVER AGAIN.  These horrible people (and I do me horrible people) now have all mine (and others too) information and harrass us and our family and friends.  It is against the law, and they have to be stupid to think we would pay anything without proof of debt.  When you ask, they find ever excuse under the sun not to provide it and demand immediate payment.  This is not how it works when it's a legitmate collection agency.  Ironically on the same day I spoke to this gentleman, someone else from a company they claim to be First Instant Recovery - Mr. Johnson this time (877) 777-2551 called saying all the same stuff as above.  Said  I owed $868.33.  I asked all the same quesitons that I did like 15 minutes prior to the the above telephone call......guess what company they said they were collecting for.....CASH JAR!!!  I almost fell over.   I told the guy, I had just spoke to the a gentleman 15 minutes earlier telling me that I owed a completely diffferent amount and for the same company........he didn't know what to say. He just kept demanding payment and wouldn't provided me with any more information. I filled one claim the first time this happened to me with the FTC.  I have no idea if anything ever came of it.  But, since I applied for a online payday loan, these CREEPS keep calling from all over.  They are rude, agruementative, and very threatening.  Sometimes, the number they are calling from is clearly out of the country (hello - Caller ID), and they give you names like Mr. Jones or Smith and have a very heavy accent.  They are the ones doing ILLEGAL acts and deserve to be jailed for swindling innocent people of there hard earned money with intimidation.

These folks at IAG have called my friends and family inquiring about what type of person I am.  They left a message saying that I should consider myself served with formal notice of their intent to file criminal fraud charges against me.  I checked with the state license department for collection agencies (under banking department with your state) and these folks do not have a license in AZ.  I told them to email their full name, address, the lawyers name and address, proof of debt.  So far I have not received anything.  Oh, did I tell you that they DON'T MAIL????  I asked if they were in a foreign country and don't have access to mail, or if they were too lazy.  I asked what the date of the debt was; I was in the hospital during that time period, and I didn't have a checking account at that time.  If I ever get any proof of debt, their full name and address, I plan to file charges with the state attorney general.

This is definitely a scam.  You don't get randomly selected!  Your information has been sold by some other company.  Do not ever give a random caller your bank card information. When they called me the third time in one day, I asked them to take me off of their list... then they hung up.  When they called me the fourth time in the same day, I asked them again to take me off of their list.  They did not acknowledge me, instead they started reading their script again.  I interrupted them and then they hung up on me again.

The national pandemic of telephone terrorism perpetrated by desperate criminal collection agencies is because they are trying to terrorize people who are naive enough to answer and submit to unsolicited telephone calls or written "collection" letters that have no legitimate legal debt associated with them or any of the companies, universities, or whomever else they claim to represent. Because most "little guys" were bankrupted by the criminal Wall St/Congress/Big Oil/Big Bankers/Big Business/Military/Robber Barons, so the desperate collection agencies are attempting to collect unpaid debts from innocent people by terrorizing them into submission.Word of advice. NEVER answer any calls you don't recognize or are not expecting. Use selective call rejection service if available, or switch to an Internet-based telephone service which provides comprehensive call rejection options. If rogue calls become chronic, turn off all the ringers on all of your phones except one, and set its volume to the minimum setting. If you don't answer the call and the caller is legitimate, they will usually leave a voicemail after the first or second try. Rogue callers never leave voicemail messages because that could be used as evidence against them if it came to a lawsuit. If you receive a rogue letter in the mail warning you of some "collection" action against you, if you don't actually owe it, reply with a short letter stating that you don't owe it. Or if you do owe all or part of it, reply with something like "You claim I owe you a debt. Under §809 FDCPA, I request validation of this debt."Only give them your name as THEY have written it to you (e.g. “John Doe” not “Jonathon Q. Doe” or however you normally sign your own name), address, and the account number they report. But if you do not owe the debt (zombie debt, aged debt, mistaken or stolen identity, forgery, etc.) state that you have never done any business with them or with the (alleged) original creditor of any kind and you expect the collection agency to close the matter, stop harassing you and take any bad credit marks they've caused off of your credit rating, and furthermore, that any further contact from them must be in writing on their official business correspondence letterhead. Send your letter to them a.s.a.p., always within thirty days, first class certified mail return receipt requested. If they refuse it and you get the letter back unopened, leave it unopened and save it in your files as evidence against them should they pursue legal action against you. If they did receive it and continue to pursue action against you, let them. The judge will throw it out of court. If the rogue collection agency sells your account to another rogue collection agency just tell them the claim has been proven invalid and offer to send them a copy of your letter to the previous rogue collection agency. Warn all your friends about this rash of desperate collection agency terrorism, and how to combat it. Knowledge is power. The more you learn how to combat rogue collection agencies, back-taxes scammers, phishing scammers, and other flimflammers, the more you will learn how easy it is to do.Above all, keep a record of everything, of every rogue call w/ caller ID information displayed including time and day of each call. Maintain a complete file on any snail-mailed intimidation from rogue collection agencies, including copies of all correspondences and postal receipts. Reporting rogue calls on sites like800notes.com, whocallsme.com, phoneowner.info is a great idea too, because many people find these sites by googling for the rogue number(s) after receiving calls from them.--Start Here:http://www.google.com/search?num=50&q=%C2%A7809+FDCPAhttp://www.google.com/search?num=50&q=zombie-debthttp://www.google.com/search?num=50&q=slander-of-credithttp://www.google.com/search?num=50&q=limited-liability-company+collection-agencyhttp://www.privacyrights.org/fs/fs27-debtcoll.htmhttp://www.ehow.com/way_5849463_do-up-certified-dispute-letter.htmlhttp://hubpages.com/hub/How-to-Defeat-a-Collection-Agencyhttp://hubpages.com/hub/Battling-Consumer-Debt-Collectors-Part-2-I-Do-Not-Owe-This-Debthttp://hubpages.com/hub/Sample-letters-for-disputes-to-creditors--collectors-and-credit-bureaushttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FDCPAhttp://www.fair-debt-collection.com/Disputing ... ute-letter.html (most say the above sample letter is too long and should be much shorter)http://www.fair-debt-collection.com/statue-limitations.htmlCredit Report:https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jspUSPS:http://www.usps.com/send/waystosendmail/extra ... mailservice.htmhttp://www.usps.com/send/waystosendmail/extra ... eiptservice.htmOther links:http://www.cnn.com/2008/LIVING/personal/02/29 ... tors/index.htmlhttp://hubpages.com/hub/How-to-Defeat-a-Collection-Agencyhttp://clarkhoward.com/shownotes/category/12/103/358/http://clarkhoward.com/topics/drop_dead_letter.html--Information for filing complaints against rogue telephone calls, telephone harassment, false "bill collector" harassment, etc.,in the United States and Canada:UNITED STATESUS National Do Not Call Registry, file complaint: https://www.donotcall.gov/complaint/complaintcheck.aspxFederal Trade Commissionhttp://www.ftc.gov 1-877-382-4357File complaint online: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.govhttps://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/FTC_Wizard.aspx?Lang=enthat is at www.ftc.govFederal Communications CommissionTelephone toll free:  1-888-225-5322http://www.fcc.gov/contacts.htmlFile complaint online: http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/consumers.htmlhttp://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htmFCC Abandoned Calls Complaint form:http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/1088D-R.pdfemail:  fccinfo@fcc.govBetter Business Bureau, Check out a Business, find owner, contact info; file a Complaint:http://www.bbb.org/us/INTERNET CRIME:File report for Internet Crime at:Internet Crime Complaint Centrehttp://www.ic3.gov/default.aspxCANADARCMP Phone bustersTelephone toll free: 1-888-495-8501Mon-Fri 8:30-5:20 pm (Eastern Time)E-mail: info@phonebusters.comRCMP Website is at: http://www.phonebusters.com  File complaint online:  https://www.recol.ca/intro.aspx?lang=en(Register with a password and then can continually file complaints)Canada National Do Not Call Registry:Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC)Telephone toll free to File A Complaint: 1-866-580-3625(to withdraw a complaint is 877-249-2782)CRTC online complaints form: https://www.lnnte-dncl.gc.ca/pfplin-fccoin-engthat is at  www.crtc.gc.caBetter Business Bureau, Check out a Business, find owner, contact info; file a Complaint:http://www.bbb.org/canada/

Fake Debt Collectors and Collection TacticsIf consumers did not have enough to worry about having to deal with rising credit card interest rates, late fees and over-limit fees, zombie debt, and fervent bill collectors, now we have to worry about collectors calling about fake debt. While many legitimate collection agencies follow the FDCPA, there are some collectors out there that are only running a scam operation and will be quick to use threats and scare tactics to get you to pay up quick. Their scams turn up in mailboxes, on the internet and through the telephone every day. Some collectors pose as national banks, government agencies (FBI, CIA), or even popular celebrity stars to gain personal information. These phony collectors may threaten to repossess your house, issue a warrant for your arrest, or even garnish your pay check, all of which are against the FDCPA rules. Some of which are even laughable (for example, there is no debtor’s prison in the United States).Fake debt scammers rely on the fear and lack of knowledge about debt collection laws within the population. They also figure that a certain percentage of their calls will be received by individuals who may be carrying debt on credit cards anyway and may be susceptible to intimidation. When collectors use misleading statements and fail to provide identification, they are breaking the law. Never pay money to a possible thief. Keep cool when you hear from collectors to avoid this collection abuse. Many times, people who took out payday loans online in the past are most susceptible. If you took a payday loan, be aware scammers may have access to your Social Security number and other personal information, and keep your guard up against such tactics.Ironically, real "deadbeats" probably wouldn't fall for these scammers, since they have no intention of repaying their creditors anyway. But upright citizens may doubt themselves, thinking they've forgotten to pay a bill. Many times, the sums involved tend to be fairly small, so some people may be tempted to just pay the "bill" and "get it over with."Ways to Protect Yourself Against Debt Collection ScamsReview your credit report frequently to find inaccuracies. Be aware of your current creditors and how much you owe. Ask creditors for identification before you provide any information over the telephone. Reporting Fake Debt CollectorsIf you ever receive a call from anyone identifying himself as a debt collector, the law requires that the debt collector provide you with identification, and that the debt collector refrain from making misleading and threatening statements. You can report any problems you have to your state Attorney General’s office www.naag.org and the Federal Trade Commission www.ftc.gov. Many states have their own debt collection laws that are different from the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. We provide the "easy to remember" 1-866-THE-PAPER" so that when the curious call back, we can provide them with your best subscription offer or even a free, two-week sample! One of the posts indicate they answer 866thepaper. Did this company buy up the list of subscribers from all local papers across the nation and now harrasses the subscriber? Your phone number is tagged to your account with newspaper service. The phone companies need to allow us to block out long distance numbers. This number called me and try to threat me with a lawsuit with a payday loan I've taken out! They was asking me to pay more money than what I borrow. Matter of fact they had nerves to not tell me who file the lawsuit. So I called the payday loan company and resolve the issue and the number is still calling harassing me. I contacted a lawyer. Please ignore these people. If you have a loan taking out please contact the source.
