I am getting calls on my cell phone. Where the HELL are they buying my cell phone number from? I NEVER put it on any application or give it to anyone other than close friends or family. Is Sprint selling them my number???? Once I pressed 1 and asked what company it was, they simply hung up on me. Another time BEFORE that I said: you have to stop calling me. They hung up on me that time too. I WANT TO KNOW THE COMPANY'S NAME AND I WANT TO KNOW WHO IS SELLING THEM MY INFORMATION. I think I have the right to know this information I just don't know where to get it.

I keep getting calls to my cell phone from the same company, but a different number appears each time. The area code is always different too. I've talked to people the last 5 times, and each assured me I would not be getting any more calls, but.... You know the rest. The last one was just this afternoon and I asked, and was tild they are called "Warranty Services" and are in Phoenix Arizona. Are you getting calls to your cell phone? I suspect this company is buying cell phone numbers. It would be interesting to see how many people are being called on their cell phones only.

I also received a phone call and the recording was from "ANN".  The recording kept saying to push 1 to speak to a specialist but never 2 to removed your number from their listing.  So I pushed 1 to let a specialist know that I was not interested and to remove my name.  When the so called specialist came to the phone the first thing she wanted was the year, make, and model of my car.  I politely told her that I didn't want to give any information but just wanted my number to be removed from their list and she hung up the phone.  I did call the number back and some recording came on saying their are sorry for calling and is trying to reach only businesses and to push 1 to remove your number.  Well I called the number twice and removed my number twice.  I am going to see just how long it will be before they call my removed number again.  I wish I knew where they got their information from to put an end to this scam.  Please anyone, if you need an extended warranty please do your homework before just giving information out to bogus people.  Go back to the dealer if necessary to get an extended warranty for your vehicle if you don't have one or even go through your lender if you still have car payments.

This is the universal "This is Ann, Warranty Specialists Etc." message. I talked to two people here after being called twice in 2 hours.  The first woman yelled at me and hung up, so I filed a complaint with my State Attorney General.  The second person I talked to, when I asked him to remove my number, he said "It's off, Goodbye!"  I asked him to wait, and I told him that I was serious, to please remove my name, that I've already contacted my Attorney General.  He actually taunted me, asking why I would lie and try to scare him.  So after that I went ahead and filed a complaint with the California Attorney General =).  FCC is nextGood job, retard

From Lamet's post:If you are targeted by these criminals, be sure to report them to all the following federal and state law enforcement agencies (most of which you can do online or over the phone):1.    The U.S. Secret Service is responsible for protecting the country's financial infrastructure and payment systems from international and domestic threats. Call or write your local Secret Service field office to alert them to the details of this attempted extortion. The addresses and phone numbers for the local Secret Service field offices are listed at http://www.secretservice.gov/field_offices.shtml or in your phone book.2.    Alert the FBI at https://tips.fbi.gov Be sure to tell the FBI that you are being targeted by extortionists over the phone. And if the crooks claim to be law enforcement or lawyers, officers of the court or bankers, be sure to include that information in your report.3.    File a complaint with your local police. Most police departments will take a report over the phone.  Be sure to tell them that you're being targeted by an extortionist and give them all the details.4.    File a complaint your state's attorney general, the contact information for whom is at www.wvago.gov5.    File a complaint online with The Federal Trade Commission at https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/FTC_Wizard.aspx?Lang=enIf these crooks call back, promise them nothing, pay them nothing and tell them nothing other than that you know they're a scam and that you've reported them to law enforcement. (And be sure to report them to all the agencies above each time they call you.)By the way, here's just a small sample of numbers used by this particular group of scammers. Read the reports and you'll see the same pattern time and again -- phony organization names, thick foreign accents, and oddly worded threats that are so melodramatic and ridiculous that it's laughable:http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-888-771-9249   Scammer posting here as GARY and GARRY JONEShttp://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-866-860-4509   Scammer posting here as Mike Hendersonhttp://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-212-500-0839   Scammer posting here as Rickyhttp://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-201-244-7722   Scammer posting as Carole, David Brown and Amandahttp://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-626-200-4646   Scammer false postings at this new number as silshan kanniue and Tina – preparing a new number to use.http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-424-354-4270   Scammer false postings as Rosehttp://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-888-785-4479   Scammer posting as Roberthttp://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-909-327-4870   Scammer false postings as Marryhttp://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-646-274-1143   Scammer false postings as Karen Miller, Chichi and Tom Littlehttp://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-561-300-8018   Scammer false postings as Marco Polo (real original)http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-877-226-7488   Scammer false postings as SAM, David Shttp://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-888-706-7463   Scammer false postings as Georgehttp://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-209-349-7382   Scammer false postings as Towanda Robinson, Shannon Walsh, Jack Dawson and Cynthiahttp://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-760-514-0132   scammer false postings as Suzy01, Johanna Hall, Cindie McMellon, Michael Dublin, Mark Williams, Carol and Rio   (800notes removed some of the scammers posts because the all came from the SAME IP ADDRESS)http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-209-797-2212   scammer false posting as Jaison Connarhttp://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-707-401-4056   Scammer false posting as John Carner, KSRhttp://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-650-241-4604   Scammer false postings as jhon and Kevinhttp://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-708-401-0535   Scammer false posting here as JHONhttp://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-518-212-0219  Scammer false posting************************************************************************************************************************Consumer Alert: Attorney General warns Kansans of debt collection scamJanuary 29, 2010 -- Attorney General Steve Six is cautioning Kansas consumers about telephone calls from apparent fake debt collectors who are impersonating law enforcement officers in an effort to extort money from consumers.   Consumers are warned to not submit payments to these fraudulent debt collectors. When calling, the scammers most often state they are attempting to collect a debt related to an internet payday loan obtained by the consumer, but which the consumer never repaid.  Consumers state they have never obtained such a loan or paid off the loan years ago.  The scam artists have most recently identified themselves as ACS, National Affidavit Processing Department and United Financial Crime Division, but may use additional phony names.  It appears the phone numbers used by the scammers are “spoofed” numbers, so that the number appearing on a consumer’s caller ID is not the actual number of where the call originated. It appears the calls in question may be originating from outside the United States. When questioned, the individual calling refuses to disclose the full name or address of the collection agency they claim to represent.  These scammers have been able to provide consumers with identifying information, such as the consumer’s social security number, home address, e-mail address, names of family members and the consumer’s computer IP address.  Since the callers are able to provide valid personal information, consumers may become confused and believe they are being contacted in regard to a legitimate debt.If the initial debt collection scam is unsuccessful, consumers have been re-contacted months later with the scammers posing as law enforcement officers or officers of the court.  Typically, the consumer is threatened with arrest for fraud or some other fictitious crime unless the consumer agrees to immediately wire money via Western Union.  The fictitious officers strive to frighten and confuse consumers into compliance by using legal sounding terms such as “We’re filing an affidavit against you” or by stating a lawsuit has been or is in the process of being filed against the consumer.A hallmark of each scam has been calling consumers repeatedly at their place of employment.  This scam hit home when an employee of the Kansas Attorney General’s Office was repeatedly called both on her cell phone and at work.  Despite the employee’s repeated verbal disputes, the caller refused to provide any identifying information to allow her to send a written dispute. The scammer also continued to call her numerous times a day regarding a payday loan she denied obtaining. Two months later, she was again contacted by telephone by an individual identifying himself as an “officer”. “I denied owing the debt and refused to pay without being provided validation of the debt. I was then told, ‘If that’s the case, I will have local law enforcement come to your place of business and drag you out kicking and screaming’,” stated the employee.“It is important for consumers to know their rights under the law,” Attorney General Six said. “If a consumer is receiving calls from a debt collection company and believe it is a scam, I encourage them to contact our office immediately.”Under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), collectors are required to send consumers a written notice within five days of the initial contact.  The notification should contain  information such as the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor to whom the debt is owed and a statement informing the consumer they have thirty days to contact the debtor in writing to dispute the debt or request validation of the debt. In addition, legitimate debt collectors are prohibited by the FDCPA from making false or misleading representations, such as the consumer has committed a crime, implying nonpayment will result in the consumer’s arrest, or using the threat of violence.More information is available on the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act at http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf. I applied for a pay day loan a few months back and since has paid it off. I recieved phones calls from indiviuals with accents stating that they were law enforcement officials working for State Department FCU and they had a affidavit with my name and they needed to speak with me about it. They stated that I owed the full balance of my payday loan and to set up payment arrangements with them. I spoke with the company that I had the loan with and they stated that the individuals did not represent them and to do not talk to them. These individuals some how hacked information and are attempting to use it against consumers.

So I got a call from this number last week.  They told me that there was something wrong with my account and such.  It felt fishy that they called me and were asking me for security questions like what's my CVV number and the expiration date of my card; both information that you shouldn't give out unless you purchase stuff online.  Since I was on the road while they called I told them that I'd just stop into a BofA nearby. While I was in the branch one of the tellers had me call from one of their land lines to confirm.  Low and behold they told me that there was a mass breach with accounts and I had to get a new card.  So the call might seem legit but it's better safe than sorry to go into a bank or contact an official number yourself just to be safe.  Whom ever did the breach may have gotten your account number and telephone number but that could be all they could have gotten.I would just say use common sense and don't give out information if they called you.  Use legit numbers or go into a bank to make sure.

Initially I thought this was a scam at first, but I just called the BOA number on the back of my card 1800-551-4453 and spoke with a BOA representative who confirmed that my card and others were compromised at a local gas station. The 315-724-4022 is a number you can find at the back of your BOA DEBIT card. If you still think this is a SCAM, call the number listed on your card just in case.I hope this helps

I got an email alert (an alert that I set up personally on my account some time ago), saying that there was "irregular activity" on my debit card.I logged into my BofA account and checked my alert history, and they did in fact send me the email alert. So, I used the online chat tool to talk to a BofA rep, and they confirmed that the email was legit, and told me to call the number in the email to unblock my card. When I called them, they said that my debit card number was reported to BofA to have been stolen (I have to wait for a letter in the mail for the details). They told me I would get a new card in about 7 days, and to go to the bank in person if I needed a temporary card.I also had a phone call on my phone (from the 315-724-4022 number), but I never answered when they called. So, fact: BofA DID send me a legitimate email alert. So, fact: I did get a call from the 315-724-4022 number, which I did not answer. So, fact: BofA chat told me to call the phone number in the EMAIL ("call us immediately at 1.877.833.5617 in the US; international customers please call collect at 602.597.2395")So, fact: I called the 877 number, they confirmed my card had been blocked, will send me a new cardSo, fact: I am going to the bank right now to get a temporary call.Is the call left on my phone legit? Don't know. It could be from the same people that compromised my card.Lesson: always deal directly with BofA (or any bank), using official communications (chat via your online bank account, or call them directly).A pain in the a**, but I had my card number stolen years ago and used by someone out of state. I am glad BofA does what it does now.

Just have to wait another 5 - 7 days for a new card.

I received at least 3-4 either daily or weekly for the last month. Today I received a text message saying there has been unusual usage on my ATM card and it is being put on hold. I noticed an icon on my phone that has never been there before.( a computer icon). I think the hacker is attempting to access bank accounts thru our cell phones. Be smart and conscious of how you use your phones and computers. I also would love to see these a** holes caught . Any ideas?

This is NOT a scam and I am thankful that Bank of America called me.  I called the 800# (just in case) and there was a hold on my account. The automated section asks to verify (or not) a charge. In my case someone attempted to charge over $300 at Banana Republic and it was declined. Then again tonight they ate pretty good at Greek Jalepeno. Both located in Boca Raton Florida. Always call back on the 800# and make sure no one is taking your money. If it is a scam then nothing is lost just don't give out any info. If it's real BoA has saved you a lot of money. You are covered for the past 60 days. Now I have to wait for another card. And I think I know what establishment has unethical employees! Why do people do this?

I recently got a call from this and called back with the message code they gave me. It is from BOA, they call you to verify activity on your account to make sure that it should be going through. I had recently authorized a payment over the phone and also had an automatic payment come out on the same day. The whole process was automated and did not ask for any other information than the code given during the voicemail, the last four of my social to verify my identity and to confirm the last 3 lines of activity from my account.

No scam.  I had driven to west texas and got gasoline every chance I could.  If you have ever driven through west TX, there is a whole lot of nothing out there..including gas stations.  BOA picked up on the activity and stopped the account.  Bit of a pain in the azz, because I had a hard ime getting a signal on my cell to call them.Honestly I am glad they keep an eye on things.  I found out on C'mas Eve last year that someone had got my card # and charged hundreds of $$ of t-shirts from some place in Canada.  They were great about getting everything fixed on that particular nightmare.

It may be legitimate, but you should never give any personal information to someone who calls you. That's a very dangerous practice. You should always call your creditor directly at a number known to you if there is ever any question. Tusting a source because of what you see on a Caller ID is very bad practice. I worked for a major telcom for over 25 years and can tell you a phone number can be spoofed with the right equipment and software. However, if you want your identity stolen, by all means, give out your personal information.

If you call the same number back, it's an automated system. All you have to do is listen and confirm or deny whichever charges they found to be suspicious. When you confirm that you actually made the purchase the hold is automatically lifted. Right then. Hope that helps for next time. Every time I leave town just about I end up with a hold on my account.

Yea, the number may be correct, but if you miss the call and it is outside of business hours (M-F 8-5, Sat 9-1) you will not be able to do anything until the next day....I am in Houston, and last night, after shopping for clothes and shoes for my son's upcoming wedding and for the bridal shower, found my card to be declined when paying for dinner...good thing I don't just have BOA cards! When I called the number on the back of the card, my only option to speak to a representative, would be if my card was lost or stolen, to have my account frozen. Otherwise, I would have to wait until Monday to fix my situation. I hate it when they babysit my cards, and think I never travel...I travel all the time! and when they see charges outside of my home area, they make an automated call and when it is not answered, they freeze my card just the same. You can't win with BOA...What kind of a bank has B.O. in it's name, anyway?

I read this post after getting a call from the 315 number this morning, and called BofA myself - not the number that called me, but their main number on the back of my card. The 315 number that called me was indeed BofA fraud protection. They called me last week to let me know that some merchant's database was compromised so they were sending out a new card with a new number as a precaution. The call I got this morning was a follow up.It is never a bad idea to call BofA on the number you know is valid in order to verify the legitimacy, but claiming that all calls from this 315 number are a scam is simply incorrect.

For the record, this is a legit BOFA telephone number and automated message.  I just received a voicemail from this number in Utica, NY which mentioned there were suspicious charges on my debit card and that my account had been temporarily suspended.  I thought it sounded very suspicious.  I did not call back the number left in the voice mail, but rather called the fraud department at BOFA directly (number is on their website). Turns out someone tried to buy $500 worth of gift cards at a Home Depot using my card.  I asked the rep if the call I received was legit and he said that if it came from Utica, NY it was legit.  While I agree the voice mail sounds like a scam (I also received a similar message via text), it definitely was not in this instance.  Not sure about some of those claiming to have received a call from this number without having a BOFA bank account, but there is no doubt my card information was stolen and the call from this number was to inform me of the suspicious activity on my account.

This automated call is calling for someone that DOES NOT live at this address NOR does John _____ have this phone number.  This has been my home phone for the last 8 years.  I have called the company to inform them of such and yet they are still calling.  I want to know where I can file a formal harassment complaint.

I think I received a spam text asking to order Mary Kay products.  User doesn't use the English language well and claims to not be able to receive text messages back.

The company responsible for this is Silverthorn & Lupolover Lawyers (www.sllaw.ca). This is an old debt settlement scam that was banned last year in the states. Apparently shady lawyers are now doing the same scam there too since it's now illegal for everyone else to do it. I would suggest that you complain to the Law Society of Upper Canada if you are upset. One of the lawyers who is a partner in this company, Mark Anthony Silverthorn, is registered with the law society (www.lsuc.on.ca). If enough people complain maybe they will discipline him because this is rediculous.

Same as others - on the DNC list (What a joke - Harper!).Whenever I get these I leave them on the line after telling them I'll be back. Best was the fake MS Tech support wanting to get access to my computer - pretended I was a total idiot for an hoiur until they cursed me and hung up.The other thing is get their name (if you talk to them), the company name, and call back number before you tell them they have jsut cost hteir company $250,000 because they are calling a number on the DNC. - Never call back after those statements.

Yet another new group of morons??Am in Toronto, and this comes up as a Windsor Ontario area code - though they have probably spoofed the area code.  They phoned today, holiday Monday. Call display only said 'Long Distance". I answered, as I was expecting a long distance call. Prerecorded message about  being specially selected for debt consolidation information. Press 1 for more info, 9 to be removed from their list.  No indication of the company name. I hung up. Am on DNC list, but that hardly matters.

I got a voicemail today from some debt consolidation company that doesn't identify themselves but leaves the call back number 226-444-7875, 226 is an Ontario area code. When I called the number I got recorded the message:"Hello and thank you for your interest in our program.....all debt cousellors are speaking with... please press 1 to leave a  message......" apparently you can press 9 and be taken off their calling list but since my cell number is never recognized by the automated systems I pressed 1 and told them to take me off their calling list otherwise I'd be taking further action.

Message on work voicemail from this number:"You are receiving this call because you have been selected to receive important information on debt consolidation and may be eligible to save thousands. This is the message that creditors that are hounding you don't want you to hear. There has never been a better time to take back control of your finances and secure your future. Call 226-444-7875 to hear more information on how we can help you right away."I called back, and got a recorded message, which included: press 1 at any time to leave a message for someone to call back, and press 9 at any time to be placed on their do-not-call list. They provided another number to call to get back on their list: 416-628-6082

Also received roughly 45 minutes ago.  Number is logged as 011-226-444-7875, which makes it appear as an overseas call, assumed to get around the DNC list.  My cell is on the DNC list, I will not be contacting back.  Did not get a company name but it was an offer of sorts and I had to press 1 to hear more.  I simply disconnected.
