Something to keep in mind about all these continuing bothersome calls for surveys, so called charities and so called charity pickups despite asking them to remove you from their list:Call centers have sprung up in my town that make use of the survey and the charity loophole around the do not call list; they have been a headache for law enforcement, emergency services, neighboring businesses and residential areas.  When I ask any patrolling officer in town about these call centers, they are quick to state their frustrations about the criminal activity that some of these call centers have brought into the area. Several law enforcement agencies regularly visit some of these call centers looking for warrant arrests etc.  I have heard from sources including from frustrated employees that work for these call centers complaining about the drug activity, vandalism of cars and neighboring businesses, break-ins and theft, drinking while on the job, smoke breaks are actually marijuana breaks, drunk driving, very dangerous driving, tons of tossed out litter of empty liquor containers, trash, food etc.  I’ve even heard that the mangers are also involved in criminal activities and have even preyed on their legitimate employees who are simply trying to eek out a living on horrible wages.  Also the operators are untrained in a very high turn around, poorly managed and dysfunctional work environment. Also realize this when you call a companies’ customer service line and get horrible service from the call center that’s been hired by the company.  One time while on a call with our bank’s customer service, the operator was so loopy that it required ending the call and calling again to try and get someone else to help, think about that when you call a companies’ customer service and the conversation gets odd, off the wall and obtuse – you may be talking to an operator that’s drunk or on something.  After 6 months of getting a different and wrong answer to our ongoing problem each time we called our bank’s call center, we gave up and closed the account. With so little police left in our town due to cutbacks, they can’t always respond to vandalism and break-ins when it’s witnessed as they have their plate full responding to the major emergencies, this allows the criminal activity free reign, the neighborhood becomes the hood.  Some insurance companies require proof of private security patrols before they will honor a claim due to vandalism or theft leaving the neighboring businesses off guard and uncovered.  These businesses also have the added cost to hire private security, install security systems/monitoring, upgrade lighting etc.  Then there are the dangers and headaches to the nearby businesses employees such as their cars being vandalized or broken into.  Some businesses simply give in, pickup and move out of town. One of my neighbors owns a call center and he requires that his operators are bonded, but I guess there’s no laws requiring this – there should be.  Right now in my town it seems like anybody can start up a call center and hire questionable labor for cheap without much regulation.I my efforts the past several years to try and get something done, I am most struck by the fact that there’s no real help, everyone is more worried about being sued than dealing with the obvious problem - you are on your own....

Legitimate businesses have a caller ID name, leave their business name and a working phone number, Fraud departments for Banks will also state the bank name and phoned number too. --Also noted in 3 ohter post here that 3 different businesses mentioned--chase Micorsoft and an internet service provider-can't imagine all 3 companies have one number....

My experience was virtually the same as "MRH", Dec 7, 2011". The only difference was that it was a 7-digit number. It was received by landline at my request for accessing the administration area on my computer after performing a system function. I, toJANo considered it the most secure way to receive this info.

I received a call from 714-868-0120 and it was legitimate (for me at least).  It was an automated call made to me (that was prompted by me) so that my web hosting service provider could provide me with a 5 digit security code that I would allow me to access the admin function of my website.  It was sent this way as it was a security measure that I requested.  I was given an option to receive the code via text and e-mail but I did not want it to be sent that way as hackers could gain unauthorized access to the administrative function of my website.

From Lamet's post:If you are targeted by these criminals, be sure to report them to all the following federal and state law enforcement agencies (most of which you can do online or over the phone):1.    The U.S. Secret Service is responsible for protecting the country's financial infrastructure and payment systems from international and domestic threats. Call or write your local Secret Service field office to alert them to the details of this attempted extortion. The addresses and phone numbers for the local Secret Service field offices are listed at http://www.secretservice.gov/field_offices.shtml or in your phone book.2.    Alert the FBI at https://tips.fbi.gov Be sure to tell the FBI that you are being targeted by extortionists over the phone. And if the crooks claim to be law enforcement or lawyers, officers of the court or bankers, be sure to include that information in your report.3.    File a complaint with your local police. Most police departments will take a report over the phone.  Be sure to tell them that you're being targeted by an extortionist and give them all the details.4.    File a complaint your state's attorney general, the contact information for whom is at www.wvago.gov5.    File a complaint online with The Federal Trade Commission at https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/FTC_Wizard.aspx?Lang=enIf these crooks call back, promise them nothing, pay them nothing and tell them nothing other than that you know they're a scam and that you've reported them to law enforcement. It appears the calls in question may be originating from outside the United States. When questioned, the individual calling refuses to disclose the full name or address of the collection agency they claim to represent.  These scammers have been able to provide consumers with identifying information, such as the consumer’s social security number, home address, e-mail address, names of family members and the consumer’s computer IP address.  Since the callers are able to provide valid personal information, consumers may become confused and believe they are being contacted in regard to a legitimate debt.If the initial debt collection scam is unsuccessful, consumers have been re-contacted months later with the scammers posing as law enforcement officers or officers of the court.  Typically, the consumer is threatened with arrest for fraud or some other fictitious crime unless the consumer agrees to immediately wire money via Western Union.  The fictitious officers strive to frighten and confuse consumers into compliance by using legal sounding terms such as “We’re filing an affidavit against you” or by stating a lawsuit has been or is in the process of being filed against the consumer.A hallmark of each scam has been calling consumers repeatedly at their place of employment.  This scam hit home when an employee of the Kansas Attorney General’s Office was repeatedly called both on her cell phone and at work.  Despite the employee’s repeated verbal disputes, the caller refused to provide any identifying information to allow her to send a written dispute. The scammer also continued to call her numerous times a day regarding a payday loan she denied obtaining. Two months later, she was again contacted by telephone by an individual identifying himself as an “officer”. “I denied owing the debt and refused to pay without being provided validation of the debt. I was then told, ‘If that’s the case, I will have local law enforcement come to your place of business and drag you out kicking and screaming’,” stated the employee.“It is important for consumers to know their rights under the law,” Attorney General Six said. “If a consumer is receiving calls from a debt collection company and believe it is a scam, I encourage them to contact our office immediately.”Under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), collectors are required to send consumers a written notice within five days of the initial contact.  The notification should contain  information such as the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor to whom the debt is owed and a statement informing the consumer they have thirty days to contact the debtor in writing to dispute the debt or request validation of the debt. In addition, legitimate debt collectors are prohibited by the FDCPA from making false or misleading representations, such as the consumer has committed a crime, implying nonpayment will result in the consumer’s arrest, or using the threat of violence.More information is available on the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act at http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf. This scumbag John Conner keeps callling my cellphone leaving threatening voicemails. He says the police will show up at my house to arrest me if I don't wire him $600.00 for a loan that I co-signed for. He wouldn't tell me the company name or whom I was suppose to have co-signed for.  This is utterly ridiculous that I have to put up with such.  I haven't co-signed anything in 10 years and it was paid back. John Conner told me that if I didn't pay up all he could do was wish me good luck. What type of scam does our government allow.  This is unconstitutional to have to deal with crap like this when our country is in such a mess, two wars, I have enough to deal with personally instead of having this pondscumbag waste my time.

Why else would they be doing this? They sure as heck are not doing it for the benefit of our capitalistic government, who they DESPISE.http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-310-598-1752This scam has been going on for well over a year, now and has been recognized as such by the BBB:Chicago, IL – August 5, 2009 – The Better Business Bureau is issuing an alert about phony debt collectors that are calling consumers nationwide and claiming that they have defaulted on a payday loan and will be arrested if they don’t pay immediately. Claiming to be lawyers, the scammers say they are with the “Financial Accountability Association” or the “Federal Legislation of Unsecured Loans” and are equipped with a disconcerting amount of personal information about their potential victims. “Because the scammers have so much information about potential victims, the BBB is concerned that this may be the result of a data breach,” said Steve J. Bernas, president & CEO of the Better Business Bureau serving Chicago and Northern Illinois. “Thousands of people may have had their personal information compromised, and given the scammers’ tactics, it appears that those who have previously used payday loan services could be particularly at risk.”According to reports received by the BBB and posted online, the scammers accuse the victim of defaulting on a payday loan and claim they are being sued. The phony debt collector threatens that, if the victim doesn’t pay as much as $1,000 immediately via wire or by providing bank account or credit card numbers, he or she will be arrested and extradited to California within the hour to stand trial. The scammers often may have the victim’s Social Security, old bank account numbers or driver’s license numbers as well as home addresses, employer information and even the names of personal friends and professional references. The BBB offers the following advice to consumers if they receive a suspicious telephone call about an outstanding debt: * Ask the debt collector to provide official documentation in writing which substantiates the debt. * Do not provide or confirm any bank account, credit card or other personal information over the phone until you have confirmed the legitimacy of the call. * Review recent copies of your credit reports to ensure that the alleged debt is not affecting your credit. Consumers can do this for free once every 12 months, and can find more information here: http://www.ftc.gov/freereports * Under the Federal Trade Commission's Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, debt collectors may not harass, oppress, or abuse any person while attempting to collect a debt. * A debtor may be contacted between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. only and can be contacted at work unless instructed not to. * File a complaint with the FTC online if the caller is abusive, uses threats or otherwise violates federal telemarketing laws. * File a complaint with BBB online at www.bbb.org if you believe a debt collector is trying to scam you. http://www.thinkglink.com/article/2009/08/06/ ... eading-says-bbbhttp://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-214-618-5897This is a very active group of scammers, many of whom are calling from India (and probably other countries) and are in cahoots with a group of American pay day loan scammers. They attempt to extort money from consumers with a myriad of false and illegal threats, and alternately pose as debt collectors, federal and state law enforcement officers, lawyers and bankers. Their trademark is to use meaningless legalese gobblygook phrases like "We are downloading warrants against you" or "We are filing an affidavit against you." Another trademark phrase is to threaten the consumer with something like this ridiculous phrase: "If you don't pay then only God can help you."Typical of many financial scams of this variety, they usually demand payment via Western Union or MoneyGram or credit card. They use any number of phony names such as US National Bank, Federal Investigation Bureau, US Legal Investigation Bureau, Hopkins Law Office, United Legal Processing, Morgan Associates, United Pay Services, National Processing, White Collar Crime Unit and many more.  These criminals also use many phone numbers from many area codes; they're probably using caller-id spoofing software and/or VoIP to disguise their real location. The main thing to remember is that anytime someone calls you demanding money to prevent your arrest, or demanding your lawyer's name so they can sue you, it is ALWAYS a scam. No debt collector (let alone criminals posing as debt collectors) has the authority to have anyone arrested for anything. (And it's illegal to them to threaten such a thing.) And since these foreign dirtbags routinely impersonate law enforcement, it's also important to remember that American law enforcement officers aren't in the business of debt collection.  (Debt is a civil, not a criminal, matter.)The bottom line is, these are criminals trying to steal your money.A consumer posting a complaint about these same scammers at http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-718-831-7157 notes that 718-831-7157 is associated with an India-based "outsourcing" telephone bank.  Though a reverse search on WhitePages.com shows that 718-831-7157 is an unlisted land line in New York City, information on Debtbuyers.Com shows that that number is used by India-based Intellisourze. (Source: http://www.debtbuyers.com/debtbuyers.asp ) My guess is that it's a VoIP phone number. This is another piece of the puzzle that fits in perfectly with other information about this scam. There are some reports on 800Notes that have suggested that the crooks behind this offshore scam are also the crooks behind the notorious Bass/Ellis Crosby & Assoc./States Predisposition scams in Florida and Georgia. The interesting thing is that the number of complaints on here about the US National Bank/US Legal Investigation/Federal Investigation scam skyrocketed *after* April 7, 2008 when Florida obtained a $1.3 million judgment against Ted Ellis Crosby, shutdown his operations and barred him from ever conducting debt collections in Florida (Read http://myfloridalegal.com/newsrel.nsf/newsrel ... 5257424005858A6 ) There's certainly a good chance that the crooks placing these calls from India are doing so on behalf of the American crooks behind the Crosby/Bass/States Predisposition scams. Here's the contact information for the phone bank in India:IntellisOurzE BPO701, Sapphier, Nr. INDIA.E-Mail: info@intellisourze.comWebsite: www.intellisourze.comA check on the domain name "intellisourze.com" shows that the website and name registration was created on May 8, just one month *after* the Crosby scams were shut down in Florida:Domain Name: INTELLISOURZE.COMRegistrant:  Pragra Infratech Pvt. And if the crooks claim to be law enforcement, lawyers, officers of the court or bankers, or if they threatened you with arrest, be sure to include that information in your report.2) File a complaint online with The Federal Trade Commission at https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/FTC_Wizard.aspx?Lang=en3) File a complaint with your local police. Most police departments will take a report over the phone.  Be sure to tell them that you're being targeted by an extortionist and give them all the details.4) The caller placed the call under a Texas area code. Even though the caller ID was probably spoofed or they're using VoIP technology to hide the fact that they're really calling from overseas, you should also file a complaint with the Texas Attorney General at http://www.oag.state.tx.us/consumer/complain.shtml 5) File a complaint your state's attorney general, the contact information for whom is at www.naag.org6) The U.S. Secret Service is responsible for protecting the country's financial infrastructure and payment systems from international and domestic threats. Call or write your local Secret Service field office to alert them to the details of this attempted extortion. The addresses and phone numbers for the local Secret Service field offices are listed at http://www.secretservice.gov/field_offices.shtml or in your phone book.If these crooks call back, promise them nothing, pay them nothing and tell them nothing other than that you know they're a scam and that you've reported them to law enforcement.

Wow. I've been having the same experience with this 213-355-5852 as of about a month ago. But for me it's been much more intense because this really started started for me in May with 503-224-2941. And just as it started to get really annoying, it tapered off when I came down to Vegas from Oregon in July and has now become rare. Meanwhile, at the sme time, a 702-418-3796 number started doing the same thing about two months ago. Between that and the 213 number, I get 20+ calls a day between the two of them and it just seems to get worse. I had thought it was just me and that it was something personal. I don't think it has anything to do with telemarketing. I think it has to do with something wierd, possibly creepy... I've been planning to change my number soon in the hopes that it would stop, but after reading what's been written here, I'm beginning to wonder if it will do any good. Curious though, how many of us, besides myself, have Cricket as their carrier?

Got two calls from this number and only got part of the message letting me know my "code".  When I called back this number was busy.  Bogus.

This number called but didn't leave a message. From what I read above, if you do answer, they only speak Spanish. I don't know if this call is linked to a call I received from Wells Fargo. I received a call where the caller ID said "Wells Fargo" but I didn't answer because I don't have any business with them. They left a message which was totally in Spanish. I just changed my voicemail which used to say "No Habla Espanole" (sp?) because appearantly the person who had my number previously spoke Spanish and I would receive calls where they would speak Spanish when I answered the phone. I think I'll change my voicemail back!

Some dumb a$$ called, couldn't speak English but tried to convince me we'd met in my hometown and spent the night together. Seems the fool was trying to get me to say the word "yes" ... that was why I kept asking him what State he was calling from. He had no idea and kept trying to get me to "remember" the night we were together. There is such a thing I found years ago on the FBI website called "Scam Baiting". When I have time, and the call is free, I will engage them because the more time they waste with me, the less time they have to scam other people. Anyway, my gut feeling is he wanted me to say the word "yes" ... it probably would have been edited to something else giving them authorization for whatever crap they are trying to pull. I hadn't heard this one before so maybe it's a new twist on a scam??? Because of that and the fact I was never asked for any personal numbers or told I had won a prize I think it's a new scam and I'm going to post this on every page I can find. Oh yeah, I also tried to call it back through my PC using Google phone that only shows as a number calling from S. California....tried 3x but no answer. If there had been an answer I would have tried to jack them around a bit. I try to pi$$ them off enough with their own style of abuse so they hate me and take me off their list... LOL So much for a Friday night of fun!
