Thank you James.  Thank you for having the common sense to know that the DNC List is just a list,  and understanding why the DNC doesn't work on the scammers reported here.

We never answer calls from numbers we don't recognize. FRom what I'm reading its the old "Card Services" or someone doing the same thing. Just don't answer. It's a scam. All they want is you credit card info - number, date exper, securing code, etc. THis is the first time this number came up so they use a bunch of different numbers from around the country. Since they are a scam do you actually believe they would honor the DNC list??

The Do Not Call List still exists.  It does not and cannot mechanically block your unwanted calls nor does it immunize anyone against any unwanted calls. It doesn't know from whom you wish to receive calls.   It is a list ....Legitimate Telemarketing companys are required by law to purchase it at regular intervals and honor the request of those on the list.  And they do.   That's why you DON'T receive Telemarketing calls from the Millions of Legitimate  American Businesses who could be calling you,  but dont,   because you are on the list...  The lawful will honor it,  the unlawful will not.   The credit card service outfit now calling you is a scammer.  They honor nothing.....nor does most of the others who are complained about on this board.  The DNC is not perfect....nothing is perfect.  That's why the DNC offers you the ability and opportunity to call them and Opt out and have your number removed from the DNC LIST......

Same credit card scam robo call. Pressed 1 to talk to a representative and when she came on line I asked "What is your company name?" and she disconnected. By Federal Regulation they must provide a name of the company they represent and a business hour phone number. This same scam has called me from 26 documented different phone numbers in the past year. As soon as one is blocked they simply spoof another and then call again.

I too receive these calls from this number AND OTHERS !     DO NOT ANSWER THE PHONE !   They are computer generated (ROBOT CALLS) so you usually do not get to talk to someone unless you pick up the phone and press a number.   When you do you are telling their computers that they have reached a viable working number and THEY WILL CALL YOU BACK AGAIN AND AGAIN AND ...   Simply telling them to remove you or pressing a number to remove your number from their list will NOT work either.   Most of these calls originate in India or Costa Rico.   They are all scams.  Do as I do and keep a list by the phone of the number that called and when.   (That's why you have caller ID - IF you don't have it, GET IT !)  Then I simply check Goggle to see who others have said it was from and write that down.   IF they call again (and they probably will) simply check youir list FIRST.   I do not know if reporting them does any good other than your own satisfaction.   My phone service provider also has a call-blocking service, but is good for only a small number of these calls, so if any really give you a pain then I BLOCK THEM.  ;-)    Usually after a few calls I never hear from them again unless they are using another number, which they have a large bank of.  Enjoy your day.   :-}

Don't pick up the phone!  Robo calls sometimes come from an automated dialing system to find out which numbers are valid. Then they can call back another time to try to sell something because they know its a good number. Just look at your caller ID and see if its in area code that you can't identify.

If they are calling about a charged-off debt/credit card, you should check your state's statute of limitations on bad debt.  Most states are 6 years.  After the statute has run out, they cannot collect on these debts.  Additionaly, these companies have purchased your account for pennies and are hoping to make a profit when you pay.  Do not send them any money or accept their calls.  The list of state statute of limitations is http://www.poorcreditgenie.com/answers.html  There is a chart about mid ways down the page.  Hope this helps

I told the guy that I knew this was a scam and he told me ok and that he would see me at the jail.  He had all my information as well.  I called them back to get the name of the attorney.  The girl who answered gave me the name of Morton Grift.  When I asked her to repeat it or to spell it she hung up.  I called back and the original man who had called me answered and refused to give me the name.  They told me to go to the sheriff's office and call them from there.  Why can't someone stop these people?

They have been doing the same thing to me, hourly. So I took revenge today and started prank calling them back. Then they stopped answering my phone. So I had all my friends do it. They have mostly stopped answering them so I posted an ad on craigslist for a ridiculously cheap car with that number. Every few hours I call and inform them who I am and that it will not stop soon. The point is, make them think twice about calling a number. If more people would help make their lives unbearable, then we would hopefully see a decline in these calls.

Phantom Debt Collectors From India Harass Americans, Demand MoneyBy BRIAN ROSS (@brianross) , CINDY GALLI and MATTHEW MOSK (@mattmosk) June 7, 2012 Hundreds of thousands of cash-strapped Americans have been targeted by abusive debt collectors operating out of overseas call centers suspected of links to organized crime in India, law enforcement officials told ABC News. The calls are part of a massive scam, one that appears to target struggling Americans -- especially those who have gone online to apply for payday loans. Armed with personal information from those pilfered applications, the threatening callers, who claim to be debt collectors poised to initiate legal action, have managed to pry loose millions of dollars from their victims -- even when the victims never owed money in the first place."This is what we call a phantom debt collection scam," said Jon Leibowitz, the chairman of the Federal Trade Commission. "It's a very pernicious and innovative new fraud."Working through call centers in India, the commission estimates that the criminals have dialed at least 2.5 million calls, persuading already cash-strapped victims to send them more than $5 million. Some have reported receiving dozens of calls per hour. They are victims like Cindy Gervais, of New Orleans, who went online for a quick loan when her husband's car was hit by a driver who didn't have insurance.Even though she paid the loan off, the so-called "phantom" debt collectors with Indian accents began calling to say she still owed money. He more or less told me that if I didn't pay, they were going to have someone on my doorstep to arrest me," she told ABC News. "And that they were going to contact my place of business, and tell them what kind of person I am."At first, she said she resisted. Then the calls became more frequent, and started to ring on her cell phone, and at the grocery distribution company where she had worked for 27 years."I was more or less was in panic mode because he told me there would be someone before noon at my place of business to arrest me and take me to jail," she said tearfully. "So I agreed to pay him."After receiving scores of complaints, investigators with the FTC said they began tracking the calls, and following the payments. They alleged the payments led them to a California company run by an Indian-American named Kirit Patel, and that such scams would not be possible without American front men."I would say that all roads of this scam, or many of the roads of this scam, lead back to Mr. Patel," said the FTC's Leibowitz.ABC News tracked Patel for weeks, from the suburbs of San Francisco to Austin, Texas.Patel refused to talk. But his lawyer, Mark Ellis, said he believes it is far too early to pass judgment on his client. Ellis, a Sacramento-based attorney, told ABC News that Patel was hired for a nominal fee to set up an American shell company, and had no idea what the call centers in India were doing."I can tell you, he was as snookered by the people in India as anybody," Ellis said. "He's a 69-year-old man who is nearing his retirement who thought all he had to do was set up some corporations and everything was on the up and up. He's completely dismayed that he has become the lightning rod of this entire problem."A close friend of Patel's also defended him in a brief interview at his home, saying Patel was not trying to defraud anyone -- he was just an unwitting, bit player in a larger scheme."If Mr. Patel was just a cog in the wheel he seems to have been a pretty big cog," Leibowitz said. "It is clear that Patel was integrally involved with this scam."Leibowitz points to thousands of pages of financial and phone records gathered by the FTC and filed as part of a civil case brought against him in the U.S. District Court in Sacramento last month. When FTC lawyers sought to freeze his assets and prevent his business from continuing to operate, Patel responded by invoking his rights against self-incrimination. His lawyer told ABC News he has had to be careful in how he responds to the allegations in civil court "because there is a potential criminal action," but that Patel maintains the allegations against him are false.Federal investigators said the phantom debt collection operation that allegedly benefitted from Patel's assistance was one of several that all trace back to the same small town in Western India called Ahmedabad. Callers use technology to make it appear that the calls originate inside the U.S. Victims provided ABC News with recordings of dozens of the calls, and many of the thickly accented callers appear to be reading off a script."Subpoenas have been readied, and Monday morning you're going to be picked up from your home," one caller says on a victim's voicemail. "And you have children. Don't worry about your children. We have a childcare department to take care of the children.""You will be behind bars for six months," said another caller. "And once you go behind bars, you will lose your job. Once you are behind the bars, you won't get a single drop of water."William Peerce Howard, a Tampa attorney who represents victims of harassment from debt collectors, said it takes an especially twisted criminal to use threats and coercion to pry money from someone who is already struggling financially"These guys really are the most visible villains in America today," he said. "They make a living scaring people."Mark Merola, of Florida, said he just panicked when the caller told him he might be arrested at the deli where he works in a Florida retirement community."I was nervous. I didn't want to embarrass myself, my family," he said. He used his debit card to pay the collector $576.Afterwards, he says he realized "how stupid I was." "It just happened so fast," he said. "I got scared." Leibowitz said he hopes with more attention, future potential targets of the scam will recognize red flags before they turn over any money. If callers say they are from the police, consumers should know that law enforcement officers do not collect debt for private parties. If the caller is speaking with a thick Indian accent, but calls themselves by a names such as Officer Mike Johnson, that should be a tip off. And if they're calling 40 times in two hours, that's another red flag. "Legitimate debt collectors, legitimate pay day lenders don't do those sorts of things," he said.Merola said he would like to see anyone involved in the scam prosecuted aggressively."There's no place in society for these people," he said. http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/phantom-debt-co ... 16512428&page=2

So I asked to tell me what the address was and she could not she said that I had to tell it to her and then that would confirm it and they would come and serve my papers. I work at a Law office and we did a search on the phone number and it is not in the law library of any legal members at all in nebraska. So i happen to think this might be a scam or a id theft. I was going to pay, but the caller could not give me the case number she was talking about; everytime I asked her, she would start talking about me going to jail for the loan that I did not make! But your right I did a pay-day loan for my son he is 21 and i don't want him back home (smile)I paid that back in one week. That's what made me think twice about this company.

I just got the same kind of call.

They have called 3 times now today. First call was for some guy who is supposedly going to be arrested for some criminal case.  Next 2 calls came with in 10 minutes of that one and were for me saying the same thing.Who are these crazies? I am not under investigation for fraud. These people do not identify what attorney's office they are calling from or either what police are planning to arrest you. Both calls left a message and the guy said his name was attorney Scott Miller. Really? Why does he have an Indian accent? If this keeps up I will be calling the police for harrassment!

These people called my work today. They had me so upset and scared I almost sent the 780.31.Thankfully my coworkers were aware of the scam. These people threatened that the police were going to be at my house within the hour to arrest me for federal charges of fraud. They couldn't tell me who the loan was through or how much the original amount of the loan. One of the ladies in the office called the police and an officer came and talked to met.He assured me that I was not going to jail. While we were talking another call came through from the same people. The officer kindly took the phone call and Announced to the other party that he was with the local police department and if they called back he would file phone harassment .After I got home this even ing I was looking over my bank statement and there was a charge my cash guardian for 29.95 I google it and was brought here.I was angry.I hope these people are stopped soon!

They keep calling me. Was finally able to answer phone at work when he proceeded to tell me they had a case against me, but when I asked 'what case?' he got annoyed and said he talked to me about it yesterday.  I asked again what he was talking about and he said he had to read an affidavit to me then he would answer alllllll my questions. I asked again he wouldn't tell me. Told him I had no idea what he was talking about and hung up.  When I got off work, he had left a voicemail on my cell saying that if I did not call him back he couldn't help me and wished me good luck......of course could hardly understand him which just made It all the more frustrating -.-

This phony company called me and I told the lady who answered with a hello who is this?  No company name or anything and she asked who called me, and I told her that I knew that this was a scam and I was calling the sherriff in my county and letting them know what they were trying to do.  This lady didn't even know what she was talking about.  When I mentioned sherriff she hung up on me.  LMAO that sure got her to think twice.

WOW! These are some nasty people. I have the lady there so mad, i have called all day yesterday and when I left the police dept this morning i called her back she hang up.

16512428&page=2

these people at 1-714-515-5503 told me i had a warrant for not payin a pay-day loan online, but i have never did that. So i called the number back and they were so nasty to me, so i told them i was going to the police dept this morning.
