Telemarketer for home security system. I have NO business nexus with them and I am on the do not call list.  There seems to be no enforcement at all.
Report by LEP Long ago Unknown
I just got a call from this number about 10 minutes ago.  I held the phone for a few seconds and when it sounded like someone was about to speak I hung up.  I keep getting these kind of phone calls.  I didn't call the number back.  Whenever I get some number that I don't recognize I usually will pick up but then I immediately hang up.  The number usually don't call back but then another number like the previous does.  I think this is a gimmick to see if a human person will answer.  When they do whoever it is calling got you.  My advice, just pick up and immediately hang up.

I am so sick of these calls.  I used to be able to ignore them but now I am ready to tho my phone out the window, find the person who is calling from his number and.............  It is so aggravating.  If anyone knows ho to stop these calls please share that info.
Report by Hank Long ago Unknown
I agree with you as it appears the "no call" list does nothing....
Report by Babs Long ago Unknown
What is the purpose of having a "Do Not Call" list?  It does nothing to deter these calls.  The name from 478-238-3382 shows up as Unknown but it is a Macon prefix.  No one ever says anything.  They just keep calling.  I THINK THEY KNOW THAT NOTHING IS BEING DONE TO STOP TELEMARKETERS.
Report by Annoyed in Macon, GA Long ago Unknown
Same here... caller ID shows the number but no name, and whoever it is hangs up without speaking. They have called me five times so far today.

"Hi this is Vincent from GE Home Security" I hung up on him. I called back to ask to be put on their nocall list and got a message saying "The Google Voice Subscriber you have just called is not Available."I wonder if GE knows the phone scammers are using their name?I filed yet another do not call complaint, for all the good that still hasn't done to stop theseclowns calling me every night...Oh, it said "Macon" on the caller ID.

Vincent called our company insisting that he works with the appeals division government and wanted to speak to the owner immediately.  I informed him the owner was out of town and no one was in the office to assist him.  He proceeded to call back 27 times in a row, harassing and yelling at me and other personnel in the office who answered his calls.  He is an unprofessional, angry little man and should be charged with harassment.

This Vincent clown is such a tool. He calls with his script and forgets we recently had the same conversation in which I had already asked him to not call back. He procedes to ring our phone off the hook several more times., I would NEVER consider using this company to handle a sensitive matter if this is the type people they employ. Vincent, you obviously didn't receive enough hugs as a child-

Vincent Abeda (spelling); called representing himself to be a part of a "group" regarding our "Federal Taxes" and then added "State Taxes".  Called from 720-221-6853.  Very vague and inappropriate voicemail that any and all employees could retrieve thereby causing our company unspecified damages. We called back and told not to call again as this disrupts business operations.  Refered to our legal counsel on tax matters.

One way of getting them to stop calling you is by sending a certified letter to them requesting that they stop calling you. I read this on a website about creditor harassment. It is supposed to be a law that they must follow.

I read some of the postings here and some other forums about collection attorneys like this b*****d Regent. Based on what I read I tried to avoid this law firm, demanded documents, which they provided (by the way I talked to a judge and he told me that they only need to provide in the first 30 days and if you have ever made a payment the debt is considered valid) and then sued me, got a judgment against me and then put a lien on my account. I should have never listened to any of you guys on this forum and settled for 50% and be done with. Now I am paying 100% plus court cost and this b*****d's attorney fees and dont have access to my bank account and a judgment against my public records. Thanks to all the posters on this forum who ended up costing me a lot. I am beginning to think you are a shill for this scam and playing us for fools. No debtor is this dense. Your responses are perpetually locked on process server, courtesy call, and serve papers. You are a shill trying to scare other victims of your scam in an obtuse way.

37 Report Long ago Unknown
On the off chance that you're actually capable of understanding the truth of the situation, let's try it one more time.Process servers do not call in advance. Process servers do not call in advance. When you get a call like this, it is from a criminal organization who is trying to extort money from you by threatening court action and a fake process server is part of the ruse. Ignore it. Don't answer their calls, or if you do, just hang up. They'll eventually move on.

tami...please listen to the adive that these people wrote to you, there are laws that protects youask the debt collection company are they license to collect money in your state and the law says they have to give you the license number, then check it out because low life collection companies lie all the time i know there not license in new york..also there is 12 states where the PDL is illegal,so that means that in the illegal states i doubt it very much that they will take you to court because they WILL BE FINED FOR LOANING YOU MONEY AND THEY DONT HAVE A LICENSE TO LOAN YOU MONEY..the judge will probably order you to pay the pay day store not the collection company the money  you borrowed ex..you borrowed 500.00 you pay back the 500.00 you do not pay any interest or processing fees and you subtract any payments you already made, and you pay what you can afford, not what they tell you to pay..FAMILY FIRST,DEBT COLLECTORS LAST....check the SOL.. if the SOL has passed you dont have to pay them a dime and they cant sue you.go to the web-site budhibbs.com he is a consumer advocate on sleazy debt collectors who violate the FDCPA LAW.he has been doing this for 27 years and he even closed some of the business down,he has articles about PDL read them or even send him a e-mail he will get back to you  and help youthese low lifes use scare tactics if you show them that you know the FDCPA LAW they will back down with there lies..NEVER GIVE THEM YOUR BANKING INFO,,THEY WILL WIPE OUT YOUR BANK ACCOUNT AND NEVER GIVE THEM YOUR C/C THEY WILL MAX IT OUT IN ONE DAY..

Aaaargh!!!  You're driving me crazy!!!  The way the law is written, in order to get validation of the debt (to prove these scammers do own the debt), Your *HAVE* to "dispute" the debt even though you want to pay it !!! I know this sounds stupid but that's how the law is written. Go look at my long post above at #4 that states: "4. a statement that that if you do dispute in writing within 30 days, the collector must mail you written verification of the debt," This is how it goes: (a).  You have to get an address from them. If you don't an address, it's likely a scammer so break off negotiations and sit tight. (b).  You write them and say you dispute the debt (even though you do not dispute you owe the debt) and ask for written validation. (c).  Collector mails you written verification of the debt. This might be a copy of the bill of sale or a credit card charge slip or a payday loan statement. It will show the merchant name, the amount, the date, etc. A scammer will *NOT* be able to lay their hands on these sorts of documents. A legit collector will have them. (d).  After you get written verification (sale docs) in hand, you look them over and decide if they're legit. If they are, pay the man! If you don't get sale docs or fake sale docs, then you know for sure you're dealing with a criminal. You can also eliminate all this grief by contacting the original creditor and simply *ASK* them what happened to your debt. Why don't you?

Well, it's UP TO 25%. This takes place in civil court, not criminal court, and debtors can plead hardship. If 25% is too much, you tell the judge and show the judge why it's too much by writing up a budget ($500 for rent, $300 for food, etc.) to show how much money you have left after the essentials. Judges will not destroy debtors' finances because they want debtors to remain stable in their homes and continue to work to pay off the debt.

Get a voice recorder and record the call. Announce at the start of the call that you are recording the call. Tell them you intend to dispute the debt and can't do anything until you get the 5 items spelled out in section 809 of the FDCPA and an address to write to to dispute the debt. Tell them if you don't get the info, you will break off contact. Then HANG UP. Every time they call up, you just tell them the same thing. Get the address, the address is VITAL, the law says you have to ask them in writing to dispute the debt so get an address. If they keep making excuses, they're scammers and you can safely ignore their threats of court. And if even if you did get sued someday by the real owner of your debt, would that be so bad since you admit to the debt anyway? Worst that can happen is wage garnishment of up to 25% of your paychecks.

Agree with Anonymous--I would not pay them ONE red cent until they have validated the debt in writing as outlined by the FDCPA. Below is a good example of a debt validation letter. Just fill in the blanks. Be sure and send it VIA certified mail and request a receipt:Today's Date Your NameYour Address Collector's NameCollector's Address Dear {insert name of collector or company}, I am writing in response to your (letter or phone call) dated {insert date}, (copy enclosed) because I do not believe I owe what you say I owe. In accordance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Section 809(b): Validating Debts: (b) If the consumer notifies the debt collector in writing within the thirty-day period described in subsection (a) that the debt, or any portion thereof, is disputed, or that the consumer requests the name and address of the original creditor, the debt collector shall cease collection of the debt, or any disputed portion thereof, until the debt collector obtains verification of the debt or any copy of a judgment, or the name and address of the original creditor, and a copy of such verification or judgment, or name and address of the original creditor, is mailed to the consumer by the debt collector. I respectfully request that you provide me with the following information: (1) the amount of the debt; (2) the name of the creditor to whom the debt is owed; (3) Provide a verification or copy of any judgment (if applicable); (4) Proof that you are licensed to collect debts in (insert name of your state) Be advised that I am fully aware of my rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Fair Credit Reporting Act. For instance, I know that: Because I have disputed this debt in writing within 30 days of receipt of your dunning notice, you must obtain verification of the debt or a copy of the judgment against me and mail these items to me at your expense. You cannot add interest or fees except those allowed by the original contract or state law. you do not have to respond to this dispute but if you do, any attempt to collect this debt without validating it, violates the FDCPA.Also be advised that I am keeping very accurate records of all correspondence from you and your company including recording all phone calls and I will not hesitate to report violations of the law to my State Attorney General, the Federal Trade Commission and the Better Business Bureau. I have disputed this debt; therefore, until validated you know your information concerning this debt is inaccurate. Thus, if you have already reported this debt to any credit-reporting agency (CRA) or Credit Bureau (CB) then, you must immediately inform them of my dispute with this debt. Reporting information that you know to be inaccurate or failing to report information correctly violates the Fair Credit Reporting Act § 1681s-2. Should you pursue a judgment without validating this debt, I will inform the judge and request the case be dismissed based on your failure to comply with the FDCPA. Finally, if you do not own this debt, I demand that you immediately send a copy of this dispute letter to the original creditor so they are also aware of my dispute with this debt. Re. "Will I receive court papers?", my guess is unlikely because real process servers do not call targets up, they just show up at your door unexpectedly. The fact that a process server called you is highly suspect. I think you caller is a scammer or an abusive debt collector. My advise is NOT to deal with either -- never pay a scammer, and never reward collectors for abusive behavior. Your defense is to DEMAND written validation per section 809 of the FDCPA. You have to ask in writing so get an address from the alleged collector -- see my long post above below Alfalfa's. Re. "Should I be concerned about this or not?", you should be concerned about getting your debt settled one way or another, not just in this instance but for the long term. Someone out there owns your debt and can sue you anytime for real if they can find you. What we are trying to do is to prevent you from falling for a scammer who is pretending to be a debt collector but we cannot advise you to not pay your debt. If the debt is on your credit file, it will adversely affect your ability to borrow and the rates at which you can borrow. You can also be hounded by real and fake debt collectors. The longer you delay, the higher the interest and fees pile up. Is not paying worth it? Only you can decide that. Make sure you read my long post above so you understand the debt collection process.

I suggest you call your original creditor and ask them if they have sold your debt. Many banks sell delinquent accounts after 6 months to get them off their books. Up to 6 months, debt is booked as an asset. After 6 months, the law requires banks to book the debt as a loss and this is what trips the banks into selling the debt.

Both abusive debt collectors and scammers *LIE* about serving court papers complete with a FAKE process server who calls you to arrange service. REAL process servers do NOT call targets before they serve papers because targets can run away! REAL process servers just show at your door unexpectedly. We cannot tell you whether this collection attempt is real or not. YOU have to figure this out yourself. Go read my long reply to your previous post above that explains how the debt collection process is supposed to work. Legit debt collectors will (sort of) play by the FDCPA rules, scammers and abusive collectors will NOT. I suggest if you don't get written validation, treat them like SCAMMERS.

In recent years, third party debt collectors have been buying up old debt for pennies on the dollar and telemarketing collection calls to debtors to get what they can from their "investment". This old debt is sometimes legit, sometimes not (expired statute of limitations for example). In parallel, scammers have also been making extortion calls using bought/stolen/phished loan data, sometimes to debtors who may or may not have already paid off their debt, sometimes to random people, while pretending to be legit debt collectors. Problem is, both employ similar tactics to scare debtors/victims into paying legit/fake debts. If you don't have debt, you know for sure your caller is a scammer. If you have debt, you have to figure out whether it is a legit third party collector or a scammer -- not a comfortable position to be in but here's how you can perhaps tell the difference: The FDCPA http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf treats the INITIAL CONTACT between collector and debtor (first call, first letter, first whatever) as a special event. Legit collectors per section 809 of the FDCPA *must* tell you at initial contact, or send you paperwork within 5 days of initial contact, the following: 1. $amount of debt, 2. name of the current creditor (which may differ from the original creditor who might have sold your debt), 3. a statement that that debt will be assumed to be valid unless you dispute in writing within 30 days, 4. a statement that that if you do dispute in writing within 30 days, the collector must mail you written verification of the debt, 5. a statement that if you ask the collector in writing within 30 days, the collector must send you the name and address of the original creditor if it's different from the current creditor. If you don't get the 5 disclosures, orally or in writing (you do not have to ask for them, the FDCPA requires collectors to provide them), treat the collector like you would any SCAMMER. Note that 3,4,5 must be done *IN WRITING* so you will need to ask an address from your collector. If s/he refuses to give you one for any reason, treat the collector like a SCAMMER. The collector can threaten court action at initial contact but the FDCPA requires that the collector actually take you to court if the collector threatens it. Threatening court and not going through with it (coercion) is illegal. If they say the FDCPA does not apply to them because they own your debt, the debt-owner exemption only applies to the original owner. A 3rd party who buys the debt for the purpose of collecting debt is treated as a debt collector and not an owner and must obey the FDCPA as explained in this FTC Staff Opinion letter here http://www.ftc.gov/os/statutes/fdcpa/letters/arbuckle.htm You can tape phone calls per your state law described here http://www.fairdebtforconsumers.com/Recording-Laws-Summaries.html You can tape, then sue collectors (google "fdcpa attorney") for violations described in sections 805, 806, and 807, per section 813 of the FDCPA. Has the statute of limitations for your state http://www.fair-debt-collection.com/SOL-by-State.html expired on your debt? If expired, don't pay. Collectors generally have to be licensed by your state to practise (collect debt) in your state and you can find out by calling your state Attorney Generals Office. Ask if a license is required and does this collector have one. If not licensed, don't pay and file a complaint with your state AG. Read useful debt-collection FAQs from the FTC here http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre18.shtm The debt collection process explained in plain English http://www.consumeraffairs.com/debt/fdcpa.html Be aware that scammers are using bought/hacked/phished loan application data to extort payments for fictitious debts from victims and victims' families and friends. Read this first and decide for yourself what you should do:The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize; refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number; asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency. If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you. Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing. Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name. Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt. Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.> http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/alerts/alt076.shtm

They call me everyday, sometimes several times a day and leave messages that are rather rude. They tell me is about pending legal matters and that I need to call them today by 5 PM. One way of getting them to stop calling you is by sending a certified letter to them requesting that they stop calling you. I read this on a website about creditor harassment. It is supposed to be a law that they must follow.

First thing I thought when I read that crap.....they work for Regent. It is SO obvious. I guess by calling Regent "b*****ds" that will throw us off the track. Clever, clever. And hey, I've got a $1 million check from the country of Nigeria that is ALL yours if you just send me $250 by providing your bank account number and PIN.  ; )

Regent screwed me and you all screwed me by posting ideas like dont pay your debt and ask for this document and that and get one of these other attorneys to file against Regent, now I owe Regent, the court and my own attorney.
