Report by Becky Long ago Unknown
I got an email today from them today saying that I owe almost $800 in payday loan that I also payed off that is just messed up.
Report by Paradox Long ago Unknown
I just got an email from an ACS services as well, so I looked up the number before I called and I just found this. This isn't the first time some "company" tries to collect money that they say I owe them. Last year or the year before I paid a company that said they would take me to court, they would call me every single day up to 10 times a day. I paid them, and what do you know? their number was then disconnected...

I got the exact same message but the last four of the phone number are 0020 I'm sure it's the same scam. What do you think?
Report by Beth Long ago Unknown
Funny, I got the exact same email today....  The form letter is exactly the same, however instead of USA Pay Day Lenders, mine says Advance Cash Services and the amount is different.  All of the other spelling and grammar errors are exactly the same.  Do NOT be fooled!

You will be responsible for the following:1)      Theft by deception.2)      Collateral check fraud.3)      And Violation of federal banking regulation. The next step is clearly defined. Hi girls,  I got an e-mail from M & J Law Firm of Delaware using this number claiming I owe USA Pay Day Lenders $620.85. I'm glad you reported them  I was suspicious because I've never heard of those lenders nor this law firm and that firm claims I'm their customer.  I still get calls occasionally from scams either trying to collect on pay day loans I paid off years ago or trying to collect on loans I never had.  I have found that if your income becomes unsteady which mine has, such lenders do not really help--in fact usually you have to pay them off in a couple weeks with high interest and you are further in the hole. I also saw on ABC Nightline recently that guys like the ones who call are in the Dominican Republic (next to Haiti) and are going after people who order personal drugs on the Internet. They hounded one woman to suicide after she paid $1,900.  According to the Nightline report, the Justice Dept is trying to extradite these crazies to the US and if they do they face 20 years.  What else do you think we can do in the meantime?

I recieved a call and an email from the Legal Department of ACS Inc. They have threatned me with legal action if I do not pay them $4,000.00 and said that a case is being filed against me. I requested a statement from them and they said could not provide me one. Any legal business should be able to provide a statement to you if they are claiming that money is owed to them. These people are idiots!!!  I have filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission against them.

I just got the same kind of call. I told the guy that I knew this was a scam and he told me ok and that he would see me at the jail.  He had all my information as well.  I called them back to get the name of the attorney.  The girl who answered gave me the name of Morton Grift.  When I asked her to repeat it or to spell it she hung up.  I called back and the original man who had called me answered and refused to give me the name.  They told me to go to the sheriff's office and call them from there.  Why can't someone stop these people?

They have called 3 times now today. First call was for some guy who is supposedly going to be arrested for some criminal case.  Next 2 calls came with in 10 minutes of that one and were for me saying the same thing.Who are these crazies? I am not under investigation for fraud. These people do not identify what attorney's office they are calling from or either what police are planning to arrest you. Both calls left a message and the guy said his name was attorney Scott Miller. Really? Why does he have an Indian accent? If this keeps up I will be calling the police for harrassment!

These people called my work today. They had me so upset and scared I almost sent the 780.31.Thankfully my coworkers were aware of the scam. These people threatened that the police were going to be at my house within the hour to arrest me for federal charges of fraud. They couldn't tell me who the loan was through or how much the original amount of the loan. One of the ladies in the office called the police and an officer came and talked to met.He assured me that I was not going to jail. While we were talking another call came through from the same people. The officer kindly took the phone call and Announced to the other party that he was with the local police department and if they called back he would file phone harassment .After I got home this even ing I was looking over my bank statement and there was a charge my cash guardian for 29.95 I google it and was brought here.I was angry.I hope these people are stopped soon!

Was finally able to answer phone at work when he proceeded to tell me they had a case against me, but when I asked 'what case?' he got annoyed and said he talked to me about it yesterday.  I asked again what he was talking about and he said he had to read an affidavit to me then he would answer alllllll my questions. I asked again he wouldn't tell me. Told him I had no idea what he was talking about and hung up.  When I got off work, he had left a voicemail on my cell saying that if I did not call him back he couldn't help me and wished me good luck......of course could hardly understand him which just made It all the more frustrating -.-

They have been doing the same thing to me, hourly. So I took revenge today and started prank calling them back. Then they stopped answering my phone. So I had all my friends do it. They have mostly stopped answering them so I posted an ad on craigslist for a ridiculously cheap car with that number. Every few hours I call and inform them who I am and that it will not stop soon. The point is, make them think twice about calling a number. If more people would help make their lives unbearable, then we would hopefully see a decline in these calls.

Phantom Debt Collectors From India Harass Americans, Demand MoneyBy BRIAN ROSS (@brianross) , CINDY GALLI and MATTHEW MOSK (@mattmosk) June 7, 2012 Hundreds of thousands of cash-strapped Americans have been targeted by abusive debt collectors operating out of overseas call centers suspected of links to organized crime in India, law enforcement officials told ABC News. The calls are part of a massive scam, one that appears to target struggling Americans -- especially those who have gone online to apply for payday loans. Armed with personal information from those pilfered applications, the threatening callers, who claim to be debt collectors poised to initiate legal action, have managed to pry loose millions of dollars from their victims -- even when the victims never owed money in the first place."This is what we call a phantom debt collection scam," said Jon Leibowitz, the chairman of the Federal Trade Commission. "It's a very pernicious and innovative new fraud."Working through call centers in India, the commission estimates that the criminals have dialed at least 2.5 million calls, persuading already cash-strapped victims to send them more than $5 million. Some have reported receiving dozens of calls per hour. They are victims like Cindy Gervais, of New Orleans, who went online for a quick loan when her husband's car was hit by a driver who didn't have insurance.Even though she paid the loan off, the so-called "phantom" debt collectors with Indian accents began calling to say she still owed money. He more or less told me that if I didn't pay, they were going to have someone on my doorstep to arrest me," she told ABC News. "And that they were going to contact my place of business, and tell them what kind of person I am."At first, she said she resisted. Then the calls became more frequent, and started to ring on her cell phone, and at the grocery distribution company where she had worked for 27 years."I was more or less was in panic mode because he told me there would be someone before noon at my place of business to arrest me and take me to jail," she said tearfully. "So I agreed to pay him."After receiving scores of complaints, investigators with the FTC said they began tracking the calls, and following the payments. They alleged the payments led them to a California company run by an Indian-American named Kirit Patel, and that such scams would not be possible without American front men."I would say that all roads of this scam, or many of the roads of this scam, lead back to Mr. Patel," said the FTC's Leibowitz.ABC News tracked Patel for weeks, from the suburbs of San Francisco to Austin, Texas.Patel refused to talk. But his lawyer, Mark Ellis, said he believes it is far too early to pass judgment on his client. Ellis, a Sacramento-based attorney, told ABC News that Patel was hired for a nominal fee to set up an American shell company, and had no idea what the call centers in India were doing."I can tell you, he was as snookered by the people in India as anybody," Ellis said. "He's a 69-year-old man who is nearing his retirement who thought all he had to do was set up some corporations and everything was on the up and up. He's completely dismayed that he has become the lightning rod of this entire problem."A close friend of Patel's also defended him in a brief interview at his home, saying Patel was not trying to defraud anyone -- he was just an unwitting, bit player in a larger scheme."If Mr. Patel was just a cog in the wheel he seems to have been a pretty big cog," Leibowitz said. "It is clear that Patel was integrally involved with this scam."Leibowitz points to thousands of pages of financial and phone records gathered by the FTC and filed as part of a civil case brought against him in the U.S. District Court in Sacramento last month. When FTC lawyers sought to freeze his assets and prevent his business from continuing to operate, Patel responded by invoking his rights against self-incrimination. His lawyer told ABC News he has had to be careful in how he responds to the allegations in civil court "because there is a potential criminal action," but that Patel maintains the allegations against him are false.Federal investigators said the phantom debt collection operation that allegedly benefitted from Patel's assistance was one of several that all trace back to the same small town in Western India called Ahmedabad. Callers use technology to make it appear that the calls originate inside the U.S. Victims provided ABC News with recordings of dozens of the calls, and many of the thickly accented callers appear to be reading off a script."Subpoenas have been readied, and Monday morning you're going to be picked up from your home," one caller says on a victim's voicemail. "And you have children. Don't worry about your children. We have a childcare department to take care of the children.""You will be behind bars for six months," said another caller. "And once you go behind bars, you will lose your job. Once you are behind the bars, you won't get a single drop of water."William Peerce Howard, a Tampa attorney who represents victims of harassment from debt collectors, said it takes an especially twisted criminal to use threats and coercion to pry money from someone who is already struggling financially"These guys really are the most visible villains in America today," he said. "They make a living scaring people."Mark Merola, of Florida, said he just panicked when the caller told him he might be arrested at the deli where he works in a Florida retirement community."I was nervous. I didn't want to embarrass myself, my family," he said. He used his debit card to pay the collector $576.Afterwards, he says he realized "how stupid I was." "It just happened so fast," he said. "I got scared." Leibowitz said he hopes with more attention, future potential targets of the scam will recognize red flags before they turn over any money. If callers say they are from the police, consumers should know that law enforcement officers do not collect debt for private parties. If the caller is speaking with a thick Indian accent, but calls themselves by a names such as Officer Mike Johnson, that should be a tip off. And if they're calling 40 times in two hours, that's another red flag. "Legitimate debt collectors, legitimate pay day lenders don't do those sorts of things," he said.Merola said he would like to see anyone involved in the scam prosecuted aggressively."There's no place in society for these people," he said. http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/phantom-debt-co ... 16512428&page=2

these people at 1-714-515-5503 told me i had a warrant for not payin a pay-day loan online, but i have never did that. So i called the number back and they were so nasty to me, so i told them i was going to the police dept this morning. And so I did when i told the officer what happened he told i was luckly for not giving them my credit card number. But I was still upset because they have my S.S. number, address, birthday, and other personal information. He told me about others cases where people pay and then come to the police dept and there is nothing they can do about. Also these people are getting our personal information off our home computers, so im getting lock guard today. look out for this number!

This number has been calling me several times a day, pretending to be ebay. I called eBay support twice and both reps told me that it was NOT legit ebay number and advised that I report it. It is against eBay policy to call ebay users unless there is a problem! I filed a complaint with FCC and Do Not Call!Afterwards this number called me again and her name was Stacy and she said she was calling "ON BEHALF OF EBAY" and when I told her that I reported the number she was calling from to ebay and FCC and Do Not Call, she hung up!People do not be fooled!! It is not a legit phone number! First they gain your trust with tips and then start getting into your personal info! I had received a few calls from this number over an 8 day period, with no messages left. Finally, I was home when they called yesterday, and the man said he was from eBay, and he was giving me a courtesy call to tell me my account could be suspended for Duplicate listings. I asked him which of my accounts was in question, and he did name one of my accounts. I asked him for specific examples and he stated he could not provide that level of detail on this courtesy call. Long and short, I pressed him for answers and he hung up on me. I called ebay customer support, who stated this was not a legit number from eBay. But he queried the number and based his statement on this internet listing.Like other ebayers listed below, I HAVE received calls from this phone number in Utah call center before, advising me of new features and how to improve sales. eBay is not always the most forthright, honest or divulgent company. Actually, that's not true.  It's true if you have little to no volume of sales.  Ebay wouldn't waste their time and call a person who sells less than $1000 annually.  When I hardly sold anything, I got this call once or twice a year.  WHen my sales went to $250/month, I got it once a month. Now that I sell over $30,000 year, I get this call weekly.  If you notice, lately it is hard to contact eBay directly especially if you're not a powerseller, thru email.  They have reduced their customer reps who answer emails to.  If you're not a powerseller, you have to wait in long lines to get to a live person, and most ebayers can't wait 60-120 minutes to have a simple answer to a basic question. The explaination I was given from my powerseller rep (who also confirms this is a legit number and call) is that more than 90% of the issues and questions being sent it, the answers could be found in under 5 minutes of research using the Ebay Help system.  Sadly, unless you do a lot of volume in your sales, they make it hard to contact someone to help you.It is an Ebay call center in Utah.  I maynot be listed under "eBay" as the owner of the number, but by a company that eBay contracts to make calls on their behalf.  If you call HP support on the 800 number, your call isnt sent to anywhere near their HQ.  It used to send you to Canada 6 years ago.  Now most likely your call will be "Tom from Kansas City", but with a disctinct Indian accent.  It's a US number, but the call center is in India, so the actual location of hte call center is moot.  Have a MN phone number, but It's only takes 1 phonecall to get the calls forwarded to any number outside MN.  the location of the area code on the number is worthless info.Ebay's policy is not to hand out phone numbers to it's customers, unless it's absolutely needed, and then only for certain issues.  It's always the best advice to not answer a phone call if you don't know where it's from, but then again, you can always hang up.

Either way you look at this phone call we have been getting. The fact remains phone call solicitations are bad news these days. As my Bank, my Police Dept, My Ebay legit messages puts it: you simply do not give information over the phone and a knock at your door unless you are 100% certain who they are and what do they want. When a person on the other end of the phone calls me and asked my name I know they do not have it (well that is good advice to assume). Should this be a legit call ebay should change there business model. We have all had messages from ebay stating not to give information except on the ebay webpage and you know that is legit.

ebay is like any other major company...have you ever heard of outsourcing?  This is when  a company hires call centers to do their promoting for them.  Therefore they don't always do their own solicitations.  However, ebay also has a rep for their sellers.  The name of my ebay rep is Ron.  I am sure I am on several of their lists because I have received calls on various different things but there is not a single one that has asked me for any personal information, password, pin etc.  How is it a scam or fraud if they aren't asking for any personal information?  They'd have to get your information in order to do something...hhmmmm imagine that!!   It may be a nuisance to you that you are receiving a solicitation call or a customer service call (trying to assist you or inform you of ebay information) since you are a registered ebay user, but that doesn't constitute fraud or scam!!!  They have the right to call you because you came to them and asked to open an account, again...hhmmm imagine that!!  Any company that you have done business with in the past year has a legal right to contact you.  If you have done business with ebay in the past year they have a right to call you.  If you are a business there is no do not call list there are only do not call lists for residences.  Don't be so blindsighted by fear (of a phone call that you CAN hang up on) that you lose an opportunity to increase your ebay sales or a free listing day, or a number of things the call is trying to inform you of ...so silly to be an ostrich with your head in the ground - reminds me of the Salem Witch Trials....OMG EBay called you!!!!!!!....it's a scam, it's fruad---- omg you're the one calling me...let's burn them at the stake and call them scams and fraud for trying to build their business and yours.  seriously how ridiculous!!!!

For example they may call to give suggestions to their "Top Rated Sellers". I usually hang up on them even though I am such a seller.

Why would they call you to say a fraud case had been resolved instead of just sending you an email????  And it is possible that if your computer was violated in some way, someone might know about your fraud case.  But, if it really is resolved, why call, unless to gain your trust for the future. And, to the others who like these calls, why would eBay want to become a telemarketer like so many annoyance calls.  Do they think people like being called???I got one call a few days ago and no message left.

gaboy replies to KreationsByKat8 Feb 2012Ebay knows there' s lots of scams out there wright? why the not communicating this trough emails  like when let you know is time to pay your fees?-------...because everyone knows there are so many fewer email scams than phone scams, right?Do people even think before they post?-eBay calls their members, mostly sellers, and especially PowerSellers (like me).-if you are not getting calls, and are a PowerSeller, chances are you opted out (like, the first time they called you and you said "don't call me again" because you were paranoid that it was not really eBay)-this is the number that they have been calling from for several years-how would they know your eBay ID, name, AND phone number to call you and identify you by name and eBay ID?-i don't have to "prove" anything, when the burden of proof required is not that this is legitimate, but that it is not.  In other words, all you paranoid people should call the number back, or contact eBay (whereupon you will be given a PIN number and phone number to contact eBay with - it isn't public without a request so that it will not be constantly phished - a protection for YOU, so you don't get scammed).

They are trying to scam you.  Nobody is arrested for debt in the USA.  They are violating the FDCPA right and left.  If you do speak to them again, insist they give you their company name and mailing address so that you can mail them a certified letter demanding validation of the debt.  It is their legal obligation to mail this to you if you ask.  They are lying when they say that you only get the proof after payment.  That doesn't even make sense, and your instincts were right for realizing that!  They won't take you to court because they can't win -- they are scammers who are unable to prove that you owe anything.

My boss received a call from this company saying i had to call immediatly. Then I call the number and the guy tells me that he is an officer and told the same thing that I'm going to jail for fraud and they will pick me up at work today. I was terrified and called the local police who informed me that if you owe money it is a civil matter and they can take you to court to get back their money like garnishment or levy's. Then the police also stated that they would not ever pick me up becuase of a stupid debt owed. They informed me to make a complaint to the attorney general in Arizona and tell them to stop calling and mail a proof of debt. When asked for a proof of debt they told me that I get all this "after" i paid them. I was like ok let me just hand you my life savings while im at it. Like for real. This is not a very nice company and they are the ones who should be arrested for fraud and portraying an officer. I told them that I looked into legal advise and they stated that Arizona statues state that what has been done is fraud and jail and arrest are agiven. I did look into this and would rather just go to court and handle it there. My boss is even thinking of pressing charges for harrasment.

It is not a legit phone number! First they gain your trust with tips and then start getting into your personal info!

I just missed a call from this number.  I used the cell number they called to activate my account a few minutes ago, so I don't know who else from Salt Lake City would have called me within an hour of activating my eBay account.  So, to everyone who thinks it's a scammer, and not to say that I can't call anyone I want using ebay's number as my outgoing caller id, I highly doubt it was anyone but eBay unless they JUST gave my cell number to someone else.  Caller ID "spoofing" only costs me $3.99/year--I only use it for business purposes, not posing as someone else, but it wouldn't be hard for someone to pretend to be eBay.

I just got through talking with customer service and they said that they will only send you a message that you can access from your account. THEY WILL NOT CALL YOU! I say again, THEY WILL NOT CALL YOU! My advice, trust no one that calls you. Call customer service or have them provide you with a number you can call back. And even then, don't provide your banking information over the phone.

They keep calling me.

I've gotten a couple of calls from this number this month, it does say Ebay on my caller ID but when I answer it's a recorded message saying to check my messages, that there was a problem with a payment (I haven't won anything since Dec. and I'm not selling anything either) when i check my messages, there is nothing there.  I'm not sure what the deal is.

They keep calling me.

But your right I did a pay-day loan for my son he is 21 and i don't want him back home (smile)I paid that back in one week. That's what made me think twice about this company.
